• Question: what is it like being a lecturer ?

      I haven’t done any lecturing yet, but I want to do a teaching qualification.

      I really love it but if you had asked me that question when I first started lecturing (18 years ago) I may given you a very different answer because I used to get really nervous standing up in front of hundreds of students and was always worried I would say something silly or wrong. I teach much smaller groups now which I find more enjoyable because I learn as much from them as they learn from me 🙂

      I teach at Birkbeck as a lecturer which I really enjoy. The students I teach are all really motivated which means I have a lot of fun sharing my knowledge with them. I am still quite a nervous public speaker so that is the most challenging part of being a lecturer, and sometimes I trip up over my words which can be embarassing! Luckily, my students are all really nice so we laugh it off together 🙂
