• Question: Why do we have emotions?

      I think I’m right in saying they’re an adaptation – so in evolutionary terms they offer a benefit. We know this because basic emotions like happiness and sadness are the same all over the world.

      We have emotions because our brains release chemicals called neurotransmitters in response to certain situations. This gives us the feelings of happiness, sadness, excitement and others. This can cause issues when these neurotransmitters don’t work properly and can lead to mental health disorders such as depression.
