I also wanted to understand people better, especially how we interact with others. I found it fascinating that we change our behaviour depending of who we talk to and for what reason.

It was my interest in sport. I was too old, injured, and rubbish to actually play sport professionally, but psychology was an interesting way of potentially working within sport.

My interest in psychology lies in the fact that I think your understanding of the world has to start from your understanding of the lens through which you view it.

It was always my interest in people that drove me towards psychology. The reason I research teenagers is that I’ve seen the great potential teenagers have for creativity and inventiveness but I have also seen when this can go wrong when young people take risks in way that can harm themselves.

I think I mentioned in my profile – but mostly I was drawn to psychology because I’m nosy! Ok, let’s rephrase that and say “curious” 🙂 I am fascinated by people: why they do what they do as individuals, in groups, in society; interested in how we make sense of conflict between people and how we can resolve it and make things better; curious about emotions. Psychology was one way I could mix academic skill (learning about theories and models and facts) with actually working directly with people (helping them feel better, solving problems).

I guess like many people I was driven to Psychology because I wanted to understand myself better (I haven’t) and wanted to try and make more sense of the complexity of human motivation and behaviour. I think I’m more confused now than I ever have been though!
