I’d agree with Ian. I think there’s so much for us to find out about the world, that the more research we can do as a collective the better – obviously I’m passionate about the stuff I do, but that doesn’t make it inherently better or more deserving. It makes it my personal priority. So, like Ian says – if it interests you, vote for it 🙂
(Just as a reminder, my research is about owrking out what services work best for people who need help and if lucky enough to win this money here I’d want to share the knowledge (through online and offline formats) that I have because of my training but which also I’ve gained from working in my current job with young people so that psychology knowledge is shared more widely and accessible to as many people as possible)
I think the project I’ve proposed is
(a) highly feasible; we’ve successfully done something similar before
and
(b) has the potential to have a big impact; the suggested intervention is low cost, could be applied to a large number of people and could change the recipients’ entire futures
But that is not to say that this research is ‘more deserving’ than the other research. That is up to you!
I agree with the other scientists that my idea isn’t more deserving. Saying that, I would love to be voted for and win the money to help a group of students to conduct their own research. I know that as a student I would have really enjoyed the chance to conduct some research with a scientist and want to pass that on to the next generation of scientists. Who better to research teenagers than teenagers themselves! 🙂
